Follow in David Livingstone‘s Footprints...
A warm welcome by Livingstone’s Adventure Transfers as you land in Livingstone is the beginning of an exciting 3-day expedition following Livingstone’s legendary journey.
ISLANDS OF SIANKABA, an exclusive lodge island retreat, hidden in a beautiful riverine setting with quiet unspoiled surroundings provides your first night’s luxury accommodation.
After a relaxing afternoon, enjoy a leisurely Sunset River Cruise, followed by a delicious dinner served under the stars.
A hearty breakfast sets you up for a morning’s CANOEING ON THE ZAMBEZI RIVER.
As you gently float down the Zambezi spotting wildlife and bird watching, experienced guides share the fascinating story of Livingstone’s celebrated expedition. A picnic lunch and rest in the shady gardens at Kubu Camp restore you for an afternoon’s canoeing.
In the mid afternoon disembark at the magnificent RIVER CLUB which is located on an amazing vantage point on the Zambezi River, providing stunning views over a sweeping bend. The River Club has an endless collection of photographs, maps and books inviting you to soak up the rich history that surrounds The Victoria Falls.
After a gentle MORNING’S CANOEING, stop at Kibika farm for refreshments and a change in mode of transport from canoes to an inflatable raft. The raft is able to drift comfortably over the few rapids on the next part of the river as you head towards Kalai Island.
Kalai Island is the Island where David Livingstone spent his last night before setting out to visit the Falls, and is also the praise place of one of the Mukuni Chiefs, who would bravely swim across the river to the island. After exploring the island and enjoying a picnic lunch, you will be collected in a RIVER SAFARI BOAT for a thrilling ride over the rapids heading towards the ‘smoke’ of the Victoria Falls, and your luxury accommodation for the evening.
On the 16th of November 1855 David Livingstone first saw The Victoria Falls from the stunning location where THE ROYAL LIVINGSTONE HOTEL is situated. The hotel is often described as one of the most beautiful hotels in the whole of Africa, reflecting the elegance of days gone by. Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink on The Royal Livingstone hotel deck with impressive views of Livingstone’s Island. This is where David Livingstone crept with awe to the verge over the rocks, and later wrote, “I believe that no one could perceive where the vast body of water went; it seemed to lose itself in the earth”.
After whiling the afternoon away in a hammock reflecting on your unique African experience, it is time to explore the Victoria Falls from above. Enjoy an exhilarating late afternoon HELICOPTER FLIGHT over the Zambezi River, circling over the Victoria Falls and swooping into the Gorge over the thundering water.
The last day of your unique Livingstone adventure begins with a leisurely breakfast, followed by a GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF THE FALLS to complete your journey of discovery in Livingstone’s footprints. As you ponder Livingstone’s words, “but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”, say farewell as you commit your extraordinary African experience and spectacular sights to memory.
Livingstone’s Adventure will collect you at the hotel for your transfer to the Livingstone Airport.
In 1855, David Livingstone travelled down
the Zambezi River to see the area the
locals called “the smoke that thunders”.
Approaching the spot in canoes,
the party could see the columns of
spray and hear the thunderous roar of
water miles away from the falls.
“After twenty minutes sail from Kalai
we came in sight, for the first time,
of the columns of vapour appropriately
called ‘smoke,’ rising at a distance
of five or six miles”.
Now you can follow Livingstone’s
exciting journey canoeing down the
Zambezi by day and overnighting in
luxurious lodges by night.
