THE MOST SCENIC BIKE RACE...
2017 VODACOM HIPPO HOLLOW MTN BIKE CHALLENGE
The 2017 Vodacom Hippo Hollow MTB Challenge made an impact in the biking world... taking participants through some of the most spectacular riding
around Hazyview on June 3rd 2017.
The race route passed through Hippo Hollow Country Estate and Elephant Whispers, thereafter taking cyclists past the Sabie and Marite rivers, forest plantations,
lush indigenous forest, agricultural lands and of course some hills..
There were four events, all of which started and finished at Induna Adventures on the outskirts of Hazyview. The 70-kilometre marathon, the 40-kilometre
half-marathon, a 15-kilometre fun ride and a two-kilometre kiddies race ensured there was something for everyone.
Vodacom also ensured a good prize purse with R15 000, R7 500 and R5 000 for the top three men and women in the 70-kilometre marathon; and R5 000 to
the men and women’s winners of the half marathon.
Non-riding supporters enjoyed craft beer on tap and other refreshments from the food and drink stalls as well as live music. Children had a number of fun
activities to choose from at Induna Adventures, including an obstacle course, jumping castle and face painting.
All finishers of the mountain-bike events received commemorative medals and Vodacom will gave away lucky-draw prizes.
Dylan Victor offered a skills clinic the day before the event as well as putting on a bike stunt show on race day.
The Challenge was a first class event - the first of many more.

2016 Lowveld Dual Bike Adventure (LDBA) : Hippo Hollow & Prawn Run
AN EVENT TO BE REMEMBERED!!
Excerpt from the Lowveld Dual Bike Adventure Superbike article - download the full articles below
“The early morning sea air hung lazily and thick with the pregnant expectation and intoxicating imminence of the arrival of an auspicious and long awaited
event… with throttle hands at the ready and left boots levitating for the quick flicks so necessary in the first assault, a magnificent first wave of adventurers
awaited instructions. The absolute uncertainty of the certainty about to unfold caused hearts to flutter unevenly and just a little faster than normal.
And then almost magically, the marvellous moment arrived… and almost 7000 horsepower of pure mechanical bedlam erupted... with nearly 80 off-road and
adventure bikes roaring to get a much sought after front spot in the knee deep, wheel swallowing, sandy beaches of the much fabled Prawn Run beach dash,
involving a nearly 10 km ride from Tan ‘n Biki to the Nkomati River mouth, in Mozambique....
But what series of earth shattering events could possibly have led up to this magnificent spectacle? It all started some 5 years ago as the brain child of Rika de
Bruyn to stage a Dual Bike Adventure event in the beautiful Lowveld, with its combination of magnificent off-road and Enduro riding potential, great weather
and awesome accommodation options…and voila, the LDBA was born.
From humble beginnings in 2012 of around 80 bikes for the Badplaas Stage 1 and around 30 bikes for the Mozambique Stage 2 Prawn Run, it has grown to
be arguably the top Dual Bike Adventure event and most anticipated off-road biking weekend in the country – with 150 entries in 2016 and an amazing 78
people for the Prawn Run... it is indeed a wonderful testimony to the winning formula that Rika, Treffon and Mark have so successfully evolved over the last
half a decade.”

HIPPO HOLLOW HELPS MAKE WISHES COME TRUE....
Hello Esrom and everyone at Hippo Hollow
Our family had a WONDERFUL time at Hippo Hollow lodge last week. You have a fantastic facility and the staff there are wonderful--we really had a great time. Thank-you so much for your hospitality!
I don't know if you knew this or not--but our son Eric had cancer last year and almost died. There is a non-profit here in the United States that is called the "Make a Wish Foundation". They help kids with cancer go on adventures, and our son wanted to go to South Africa. I was told that Hippo Hollow donated our rooms and meals during our stay. We are really grateful for this wonderful gift. Please know how thankful we are - this truly was a very generous gift from Hippo Hollow to our family! Your facility is amazingly nice and knowing that you donated a 3-night stay for our family - as part of Eric's 'Make A Wish' adventure - means so much to us - thank you!
Please tell all of the staff there how much we enjoyed our stay and how wonderfully we were treated and how thankful we are for your generosity!
To show how much Eric and the rest of us enjoyed our time, I'm attaching a few pictures that capture how happy he/we were during our stay. I hope you can open/download these pictures. If not--please send me an e-mail and I'd be happy to print them and mail them to you through the post office.
Again - thank-you to you and to Hippo Hollow for donating such a generous gift and being so kind to our family.
Bruce Sylvester for Gretchen, Karen, Eric, and Audrey.
