An Enchanting Luxurious Bush Experience...
Madikwe Hills is built upon a rocky outcrop with sweeping views over miles of open plains. The lodge was discreetly designed to blend almost imperceptibly into the surroundings – huge granite boulders are a major feature of the property, all of which were left completely undisturbed, even if it meant having to build around them, as was the case in the double-height bar and some of the bathrooms.
Our beautifully furnished luxurious suites are extremely spacious (±150m²), each with their own lounge, bedroom, change room and bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. The glass-fronted suites open out to a large private deck with plunge pool offering the most exquisite views.
Aside from the pleasures of the lodge itself, the game drives are an undisputed highlight of any visit to Madikwe Hills. If you’re lucky you’ll see everything you came here to see, including the famous African Wild Dog... your ranger and tracker will go out of their way to make it happen.
Despite being one of the nation’s largest reserves, development in the Madikwe Game Reserve has been closely monitored. Guests of Madikwe’s high-end lodges have the place to themselves; day visitors are absent as one is not allowed to drive on the game drive roads with your own vehicle, and the relative remoteness and sense of escape is a huge part of Madikwe’s appeal. Madikwe Hills is perfectly positioned in the middle of the reserve, giving guests a huge advantage of seeing more wildlife on game drives over other lodges situated in the corners or close to the Park’s edges.
Madikwe Hills is one of the few lodges in Madikwe that use trackers (spotters) on a tracker seat on the front of our vehicle. This allows the ranger to be more interactive with the guests while the tracker looks for tracks and animals. At night the tracker uses the spotlight, freeing the ranger up to be interactive with the guests instead of driving, operating the radio and having to use the spotlight himself as well!
If you are not out on an exhilarating game drive or walk, relaxing in your palatial suite, or dining on sensational delights, let us spoil you with relaxing spa treatments, or you can work away your guilty conscience in our gym.
From the moment you arrive at Madikwe Hills, you will feel part of our friendly family... our passion is making sure your experience is something unique, special and very memorable.
Not only do we create unique dining experiences such as private dinners on your deck, boma dinners with live entertainment to meals out in the bush, but we also cater for dietary requirements and allergies. No reason for you not to have tasty, mouth watering meals just because of allergies! From lactose to glucose intolerance to vegetarian… we do it all.
Your evening meals, unless it is a private dinner, will be enjoyed with the other guests from your game drive and will be hosted by your ranger It is always fun to meet other guests, where you can reminisce on the days events and share stories of different countries and cultures around the dinner table.
Even though many of our staff are trained in first aid, we are also clients of Africa Safe T whose paramedic stays on site at Madikwe Hills! Great peace of mind for any emergency to know that you have a qualified paramedic on the premises with a 4x4 ambulance!
As a guest of Madikwe Hills you are of great importance to us, and we go to great lengths for your health and safety while staying with us. See sidebar for details.

HEALTH & SAFETY
Madikwe Game Reserve is Malaria-free.
The only perennial river, the Marico,
is free of bilharzia.
Being in a reserve boasting the “Big five”,
all of which, plus others such as spotted
hyaena and hippo, can be dangerous, we
ALWAYS adhere to the safety rules.
Every 3 months an external Health Audit
is done at the Lodge where extensive
health tests are done in the kitchen.
Once a month, Nick from Environ Pest
Management treats all our thatch, suites,
kitchens and main areas to ensure
no unwanted visitors encroach
on the comfort of our guests.
Handle bars in the showers and non-slip underlay bath mats in the bathrooms.
We stayed for three nights
and were blown away.
